Nick

Hailing from Buckinghamshire in the UK, Nick's been gaming since his family first got a second-hand Nintendo NES when he was about 5. With a background in theatre and communications, Nick uses those skills and turns them into his passion of streaming and speedrunning.

Early Gaming & Streaming

Whilst growing up playing games was the start, it was attending Lancaster University that opened Nick's eyes to how gaming is a door to community. He joined the Lancaster University Gaming Society (LUGS), volunteering as Social Secretary in his second year and being made President in his third year. Nick found that when applying for jobs after leaving university, interviewers were far more interested in learning about his experience for LUGS than his actual job experience. This was also when Nick created his YouTube channel and dabbled with reviews and video blogs.

After moving around the country a little with his then girlfriend Heidihihi, Nick got into streaming on Twitch, at first playing Dead By Daylight, but also streaming League of Legends & Teamfight Tactics, Blasphemous, and eventually a full run of every main series Metal Gear game, Nick's favourite video game series. Nick also created the Mansions of Madness Stream Experience, a series where he would host sessions of the board game on Tabletop Simulator whilst taking on the persona of The Host, a cruel games-master who dictated the action to the guest investigators.

Speedrunning

Following the conclusion of his Metal Gear series, Nick decided he didn't want to stop there and figured speedrunning the first game might be fun. He'd learnt to speedrun Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil a few years back, but had never taken speedrunning seriously. The decision to try speedrunning came just as the UK's second COVID lockdowns took effect, and being furloughed from work, Nick had a lot more time on his hands to give it a decent attempt. This time, the hobby cemented and Nick became a speedrunner.

As well as games in the Metal Gear series, Nick is most well known for also speedrunning Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil, as well as UnMetal and Mini Ghost, two games developed by UnEpic Entertainment. Nick is the self-proclaimed "best UnMetal player" in the world, and the developers do consider Nick the world's biggest fan of the game. Outside of these, Nick has also completed speedruns of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen, Little Nightmares, Flashback, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Wacky Races: Starring Dastardly and Muttley, Choo Choo Charles, and Zone of the Enders.

Marathons & Events

Nick's been very involved with speedrunning marathons, both running and volunteering. He's ran in over 30 marathons, including travelling to the US to run Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes as Summer Games Done Quick 2023, which he also hosted for - he was the first host of the event! He's made appearances for GDQ Hotfix, UKSG, ESA, and Prevent-a-thon, to name just a few.

Nick's had plenty of experience volunteering as a host and tech crew for various marathons. He ran a few events for Metal Gear Speedrunners, co-founded the now defunct Pixel Perfect Events and is currently the tech lead for Fast For The Kids, having customised his own NodeCG setup and created custom layouts for the marathon. As a result Nick has developed skills in HTML, CSS and Javascript coding, as well as C# having written autosplitters for Klonoa 2, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, Mini Ghost, and Pampas & Selene.

Nick's custom NodeCG setup is part of a bigger package he's developing that he's named 'SpeedrunToolsUK'. It's still very early in development, but does also include a set of dummy Twitch streams and an event guide that can be read on this site. If event organisers are looking for help and solution to help with putting on events, please reach out. Nick's biggest ambition is to create a live UK speedrunning event that could be the UK's answer to GDQ/ESA - if this is something that interests you, definitely get in touch!

Heidihihi

Nick's cat loving wife, Heidihihi is a born-and-bred Yorkshire lass, and proud of it! Heidi loves gaming, but her main passion is music and she's also the captain of a local squash team.

About Heidi

Nick and Heidi first met in 2010 during their second year at Lancaster University, as they were fresher reps together and lived on the same corridor in their student dorm. They officially hooked up on Halloween! Together they lived in Lancaster for three years, until Heidi's work took them to Rugby, Hemel Hempstead and now Aylesbury. They married in January 2022, though were originally due to get married in April 2020 - the first UK COVID lockdown started mere weeks before the original date!

Her favourite game series is Monkey Island and she has dabbled in speedrunning herself, having run Return to Monkey Island, The Lion King and UnMetal. She has a skip in UnMetal named after her - the "Heidi-Load" was found when Nick was teaching her the speedrun and they discovered you can skip Takuma's Boss Defeated screen!

Eli

The mascot of the NickRPStream, Eli is Nick and Heidi's real-life cat who they first got in August 2020. The epitome of the term "scaredy-cat" Eli is a very sensitive lad and does not live up to his namesake in the slightest (he's named after Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid).

Alex

The newest member of the NickRPStream, Alex was born in October 2023. He's an adorable toddler who loves babbling, bubbles and shouting "Daddy" at everyone - he hasn't quite worked out he's only supposed to call Nick "daddy"! Nick first told the world that Heidi was pregnent with Alex at the end of his Twin Snakes run for SDGQ2023!
